AFP Nevada resets after election, focuses on abolition of payroll tax in Legislature
After being very active during Campaign '12, the Nevada chapter of Americans for Prosperity has sent out a missive signaling it will pressure Gov. Brian Sandoval and the Gang of 63 to abolish the Modified Business Tax. The group also expressed its displeasure with the governor's decision to expand Medicaid:
Nevada: The immigration reform crucible
On Saturday morning, Las Vegas Latino leaders hosted a meeting at the Mexican eatery, Lindo Michoacan, to discuss pressing issues.
Clark County Republicans want Sheriff Gillespie to refuse to enforce any "unconstitutional gun regulations"
So says a resolution passed last week by Nevada's largest Republican Party. And they don't even cite the letter written by Humboldt County Sheriff Ed Kilgore, instead invoking one penned by an Oregon sheriff. My guess is Gillespie, who ironically is meeting in DC with the president about gun control, will not agree to the GOP's request. Here is the party's pro-gun manifesto:
State Sen. Kelvin Atkinson releases statement on Brooks affair
Here it is, surely prompted by Councilman Ricki Barlow's attempt to embarrass him (by the way, folks, premium subscribers to the site had this information 24 hours ago):
NV GOP Chair: We were infiltrated by evildoers from...the East Coast
Yes, that's what Nevada Republican Party Chairman Michael McDonald, who recently met with RNC Chair Reince Priebus, said was the problem for the GOP here in 2012. Seriously? Yes, seriously:
The Brooks story is no longer funny
Steven Brooks’ political career is over. Of that there is no doubt. Even in the land of second chances, the man pictured shirtless on the front page is done.
Brooks failed to file required docs with the secretary of state
As if he doesn't have enough, more serious problems to worry about and yet perhaps more evidence of his state of mind, Assemblyman Steven Brooks failed to file required documents with the secretary of state this month. The final contribution and expenses report for 2012 and his annual financial disclosure form have not been filed, and the SOS sent him a couple of letters a few days ago. The letters are attached here.
Barlow, who said he wasn't involved, puts out statement detailing involvement
Statement attached. It's amazing. He also included an email from state Sen. Kelvin Atkinson to other lawmakers to make the latter look bad because it indicates to other legislators that talk of threats to the speaker were exaggerated -- or so Barlow would have the media interpret it. The email is attached, too.
Assemblyman Brooks taken to hospital for pysch evaluation
Troubled Assemblyman Steven Brooks was taken by Metro Police to a local hospital late Friday for a pyschological evalutation, law enforcement sources confirmed. The evaluation, known as a Legal 2000, is done to determine whether the person is a threat to himself or others.
Brooks: "I want a book deal"
He said he was joking, but that was one of the lines Assemblyman Steven Brooks gave me during a brief phone call this morning. Brooks texted me and said, "Call me. Now." That was after a series of texts that began at 1:41 AM. He simply texted my name and when I respodned this morning, he rejoined: "Luv ya." Yes, that happened. Then, this morning, he texted me that "MK" (Speaker Marilyn Kirkpatrick) was the cause of all of this and then asked me to call him. He said she is out to get him because "he challenged her" at a November caucus meeting.
