Early Saturday evening, Assemblyman Erv Nelson sent an email to his legislative colleagues, a brief but warm missive informing them he would be running for Mark Lipparelli's state Senate seat. What ensued showed once again (as if we need another reason) how unfit for office Assemblywoman Michele Fiore is as she responded (replying all!) with a vicious and illiterate attack on Nelson, implying he was illegally moving into the district and saying her BFF Victoria Seaman was going to "kick your...
Attorney General Adam Laxalt this morning filed suit against the federal government's sage grouse land-use plan, going against the wishes of Gov. Brian Sandoval, who has been negotiating to prevent a listing of the bird. "By pursuing litigation now, the Attorney General is acting in his personal capacity and does not represent the State of Nevada, the Governor, or any state agencies," Sandoval said in an unusally sharp rebuke to the AG. (Full statement below)  The lawsuit, which you can see...
I broke the news late Tuesday afternoon that Assemblyman Brent Jones and state Sen. Don Gustavson had written a letter urging Sharron Angle to run for the U.S. Senate to take Harry Reid’s seat that she failed to win in 2010. (I tried to contact all three but no luck.) Then, late Tuesday evening, the full letter was posted here. And with a postscript added by Angle, it became clear this was a sanctioned effort by her (I thought so anyhow because she and Gustavson are pals) and that she really...
Here is the ad that One Nation, a GOP SuperPAC intended to be an alternative to the Harry Reid-driven Patriot Majority, is spending $800,000 on for the next few weeks in Nevada on behalf of Senate hopeful Joe Heck.
On Tuesday evening in Reno, a fundraiser for Republican Pat Hickey's anointed replacement for his Assembly seat will take place, with a guest list that indicates just how committed people are to ensuring that the seat is not turned over to an anti-tax zealot. I have seen some legislative fundraiser host committees in the South that are so stuffed with luminaries and lobbyists that they scream anointment. But the one that Jill Tolles, a longtime education activist and well connected member of...
Welcome to the Weekly Report. This week: 1.  Diving into the congressional FEC reports – who did what and who gave to whom and what the numbers mean – exclusive analysis of the numbers 2. The Weekly Insiders on the third-quarter reports 3. My insiders on the Dem debate 4. Smartest/dumbest moves of the week I went through the reports in CD3 and CD4 to get details of what happened. Those results are below for you to peruse. My insiders had some great thoughts, as usual: ►On the story I broke last...
Here's the letter SEIU local boss martin Bassick delivered to the executive board today: Letter of Resignation Exec Board - Final by Jon Ralston
What follows is a transcript of Donald Trump’s “speech” at the Treasure Island on Thursday, a trip into a rhetorical heart of darkness that makes Dennis Hopper in “Apocalypse Now” sound coherent. This is the GOP frontrunner for president in 10,000 words. I should annotate but I’ll let it speak for itself. Thank you everybody.  Thank you.  Thank you.  Thank you very much.  Thank you.  So nice, thank you.  Thank you very much.  What a great group.  You know they have hundreds and hundreds of...
Welcome to the Weekly Report. This week: 1.  The Rubio 16 -- who he met privately with on Friday. 2. Is SD6 gone for the GOP with Lip out? 3. Is CD3 Lean R and CD4 Lean D? 4. Reax to McDonald's resignation, Prince Harry's lawsuit and Danny's big number 5. Smartest/dumbest moves of the week Some great stuff from The Weekly Insiders, including a consensus that SD6 not quite over yet and some priceless one-sentecne reactions. ►Fascinating musings:  I really think the Presidential campaigns, the...
The power of incumbency for appointed Commissioner Marilyn Kirkpatrick. The fundraiser below should take care of the message-sending and cash-building, assuming Steve Sisolak doesn't take all the money for his gubernatorial campaign. I'm sure would-be Commissioner Steve Ross can find something else to do.....
