How to write a Prince Harry profile
Once again in the eye of the storm, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is being profiled, lampooned and eviscerated in the national media.
Poll: Voters divided on the margins tax
The Nevada electorate is split on The Education Initiative, the margin tax proposed by the state teachers union, according to a new poll paid for by the Retailers Association of Nevada, which opposes the proposal. The question itself asked whether people think the 2 percent tax on larger businesses would raise the needed revenue, and the electorate was almost evenly divided (47-46). My thought: This result will depend on how the question is asked, and the campaigns next year will determine everything.
Meet Sharron Lowden
Sue Lowden, the consummate Establishment candidate sliced up three years ago by the Sharron Angle buzzsaw, can only become Nevada’s next lieutenant governor by morphing into…Sharron Angle.
John Lee unplugged
In a remarkable interview Tuesday, North Las Vegas Mayor John Lee brimmed with optimism about North Las Vegas, trashed two high-ranking employees he forced out, referred to his city as a “financial stinkbomb” that could hurt tourism, said he does not know anyone in his jurisdiction who has been a crime victim and compared his police force to Metro, saying, “Our cops don’t shoot people when we stop them.” I kid you not.
Updated post: Hardy to file with FEC
UPDATE, 9/30: Hardy told me he plans to file with the Federal Election Commission next week to start raising money for the the congressional race. But he still reserves the right not to run if he can't get enough in the bank by January. Hardy told at least one lobbyist Monday that he is running. Until filing closes in March, I believe nothing..... ------- Hardy told lobbyist Cresent Hardy, the assistant minority floor leader, is considering a bid against Rep. Steven Horsford. "I'm just looking at it," Hardy confirmed. "No commitment yet."
Nevada GOP opts for Big Mac over Prime CUT
About a month after the 2012 election, ex-state GOP Chairwoman Sue Lowden hosted a meeting in Laughlin to talk about fixing the Ron Paul-dominated Clark County Republican Party.
Hickey's "gaffe" sparks familiar pattern: Partisan pouncing and distancing
Pat Hickey is the very definition of an avuncular fellow, but his GOP masters are treating him like the crazy uncle who must be locked in the basement.
Whittemore broke the law, but he should not do time
At his zenith, Harvey Whittemore was loud, bombastic, occasionally obnoxious. He had power, through his clients, and he wielded it in Carson City for them. And not very quietly.
GOP chairman attacks GOP governor, GOP senator and sneers at biggest donor, Sheldon Adelson
UPDATE: Chairman McDonald, responding to the missive I clearly identified as a draft with his name, put out a statement that indicated I said he sent this to the central committee. I did not say that, as any plain reading of my post would reveal. But he may have sent it if I hadn't mocked it -- we will never know. And it came straight from GOP HQ, where a mole made sure I'd see it.
