Hush hush on Sandoval-Jeb event
Ex-Florida Gov and prospective 2016 presidential hopeful Jeb Bush is coming to Las Vegas next week for the Republican Jewish Coalition meeting, but plans to make time to raise money for his beleaguered colleague and possible running mate, Gov. Brian Sandoval.
Reid, Sandoval will be together to promote clean energy
No Solyndra jokes allowed. No NV-Energy-owns-the governor-jokes allowed. On Thursday morning at 10:30, in front of the "Welcome to Las Vegas" sign, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Gov. Brian Sandoval will be together to hype clean energy. The frenemies will be there, as you can see below, on behalf of the Clean Energy Project to talk about all of the wonderful investment in Nevada. Somebody take a picture. No 2016 announcements expected.
Bolton to appear at two fundraisers in Las Vegas
As the parade of 2016 hopefuls comes to Las Vegas next week for a Republican Jewish Coalition meeting, former UN Ambassador John Bolton will appear at two events for local candidates -- one for attorney general hopeful Adam Laxalt and one for congressional candidate Niger Innis.

In honor of Jackie Gaughan....
Here's a picture from an event I did about 20 years ago for Reno PBS called "A Gathering of Gamblers." From left, standing: Don Carano, Phil Satre, moi, John Ascuaga, Jackie Gaughan, Bill Boyd. Sitting: Warren Nelson, Claudine Williams.
State senator who sponsored pot dispensary bill to be feted by lobbyists, potential investors
State Sen. Tick Segerblom, who is not on the ballot in 2014, is having a fundraiser next week sponsored by many who want to profit from his medical pot dispensary law and who can be a "Space Cowboy" by giving $5,000. I kid you not. Is there anyone in the state not trying to profit from The Great Weed Rush of 2014?

Spanish-language newspaper: Sandoval's "true and righteous acts" redeemed him with Hispanics
In an amazingly flattering profile in El Tiempo Las Vegas, the governor who once supported Arizona's controversial immigration law is all but lionized as a Hispanic deity.
Law prof raises questions about who can run the community college system
In a new paper, a law professor and his son, a Democratic activist, raise questions about the age-old tug o' war between the Legislature and the regents over who runs higher ed. The paper (attached here) by Tom and Justin McAffee raises questions about the governance of the community colleges, not explicitly laid out in the Constitution, and about conflicts between the attorney general and the Legislative Counsel Bureau, which have occurred in the past and often have to be resolved in court. The conclusion:
