Progressives: Heck misled on background checks
The group, Progress Now Nevada, has brought the controversial issue of background checks, which some Democrats think can be a wedge in key races, into the congressional contest in District 3. The organization recorded a town hall last month (Feb. 19) that Rep. Joe Heck gave and picked out his responses to questions (I'm not suggesting any were planted) about the issue. The video is below, but the group focused on Heck's answers on gun shows and a web portal for transactions.
AFP starts ad today thanking Joe Heck on Obamacare
In CD3, one of the most-watched districts in the country, third-party spending will be continuous. Case in point: Americans for Prosperity starts a spot Monday praising Rep. Joe Heck. It's below. Â

Flores assembles national team for LG's race
The roster looks as if it has been gathered to play in a U.S. Senate race. Democratic Assemblywoman Lucy Flores, who announces her lieutenant governor candidacy later today, has put together a roster of talent that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid would be proud to have. And that's no coincidence since Reid believes Flores becoming lieutenant governor would prevent a second-term Gov. Brian Sandoval from leaving his job to challenge him in 2016. Sen. Cory Booker's campaign manager. A nationally known pollster. Reid's 2010 campaign manager. For an LG's race.
Nevada Democratic state Senate caucus issues statement on Nevada's failed religious freedom bill
I finally induced Governor Brian Sandoval to utter a safe statement about it. Â And his anointed choice for lieutenant governor, state Sen. Mark Hutchison, has gotten himself into a bit of a pickle over it.
Krolicki: Vegas could know in a week if finalist for RNC 2016
UPDATE: Even faster than Krolicki thought: RNC boss Reince Priebus will announce the finalists tomorrow at 10 AM on Twitter! Â Â Las Vegas could know in a week if it is a finalist for hosting the Republican National Convention in 2016, Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki said Wednesday. Krolicki, heading up the state's effort, is optimistic that Las Vegas will make that first cut, and he sounded sanguine that the city could get the final nod this spring or summer when the Republican National Committee ratifies the choice of a site-selection committee.
Hutchison: I shouldn't have said Sandoval supported religious freedom bill
I acknowledge it was a mischievous question. But I wanted to see how both Republican candidates for lieutenant governor, sprinting to the right as fast as they can and potentially in line to succeed Brian Sandoval, would answer during a "Ralston Reports" debate: Is the governor a conservative? His anointed choice, state Sen. Mark Hutchison, first used as evidence that Sandoval had appointed him to sue the federal government over Obamacare. Unsatisfied with that bit of resume-boasting, I pressed and Hutchison answered:
Devastating report on margin tax surfaces
Here's the money line: "With an effective tax rate approaching 15 percent, Nevada’s effective business tax rate would be materially higher than any other Western state, including, without limitation, California." This has been hinted at for weeks, and I have revealed some of Jeremey Aguero's findings. Now they are in black and white and attached here. Paid for by both sides, released by foes.
New pro-gay rights group thanks governor, attorney general
Even though they originally wanted to stand up for the state's gay marriage ban, Gov. Brian Sandoval and Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto are being treated as heroes by a new coalition for dropping their opposition.
