Anatomy of a scandal: How the patient dumping crisis developed
My rant about property tax breaks for big parcels (read: gamers)
I've already detailed some of the bigger tax breaks, thanks to an eight-year-old cap. last night, I had more to say. Â Â
Metro wins arbitration over police union
The decision is posted here. Key part is that arbitartor found increases will have to be repaid. Retroactive paybacks! This could get ugly. Â Â Â
As Democrats prepare tax plan, the natives are getting restless
Ruben Murillo did not hesitate. “If we leave this legislative session without any commitment to stable funding, there’s going to be a lot of people demanding answers,” the incoming head of the state teachers union said. “We will hold them accountable.” Even Democrats? Willden Director Nevada Department of Health and Human Services 4126 Technology Way, Room 100 Carson City, Nevada 89706 Dear Director Willden:
Reid and those "problematic" contributions: He asked for them, but spokeswoman says he crossed no lines
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid solicited money from a donor who gave $100,000 to a SuperPAC linked to the senator, which dances very close to a legal prohibition.
Democratic tax plan to be unveiled this week, will be combination of payroll tax, mining and long-term property tax changes
UPDATED: I'm also told Steve Wynn has decided to get engaged in the tax discussion and has called lawmakers, even going so far as to say he might come to Carson City next week. The gist of his pitch: Tax mining, not gaming! It's 1989 all over again. Please come to Carson in the springtime, Mr. Wynn. ----
Gamers reaping millions of dollars in tax breaks because of old property tax cap
During a time when state lawmakers are looking for more money, major gaming companies are enjoying the benefits of an anachronistic state law that grants $100 million in property tax breaks in Clark County. Public records show those benefiting are led by Wynn Las Vegas, which enjoys a $6.3 million tax break, easily outdistancing the $3.8 million abatement given to the second luckiest taxpayer, The Fontainebleau, which, by the way, is not open.
