A message for Kelvin
On the same I reported in my email newsletter that state Sen. Kelvin Atkinson was 75 percent sure he would run for secretary of state, Treasurer Kate Marshall announced early endorsements. This is classic:
Democrats have new hope for lieutenant governor
On Wednesday evening at the Red Rock resort, a full-blown anointment party will take place in the biggest race of Campaign '14: lieutenant governor. Yes, lieutenant governor.
Nevada Democrats, Republicans have no respect for Jews
UPDATE, 10:12 AM: Turns out Democratic congressional candidate Erin Bilbray, who actually has Jewish relatives, is holding an event on Yom Kippur, the most holy of the High Holy Days. And on Friday the 13th. Here's the invite. The Jewish High Holy Days begin Wednesday with Rosh Hashanah. And guess what else is happening? These:
Release of memos won't solve any nuclear waste mystery, nor make it easier to tamp down tensions
When talking about nuclear waste in Nevada, separating the substance from the politics would have confounded Einstein. But after a couple of weeks of probing what exactly has gone on with the state and the DOE over a proposed waste shipment from Tennessee, here’s what I have concluded:
The mystery nuclear waste memos: They exist!
UPDATE: I have also obtained a letter from Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz to Gov. Brian Sandoval, attached to the other memos below. The resolution, attached here, contains eight sections explaining why the tax plan makes sense and then concludes with:
How could Justin Timberlake and Ben Affleck affect the web poker debate?
UPDATE, 8/15/13, 1:15 PM: Seems as if the American Gaming Association sees an opportunity with this movie to make the case FOR federal legislation. Here's an email I obtained from AGA boss Geoff Freeman to his board: AGA Board:
The speaker revises history of 2013 session
I like Marilyn Kirkpatrick -- always have. Her no-nonsense style. Her work ethic. Her policy imperatives. But it must be said: This piece she wrote for The Las Vegas Sun this week is an exemplar of putting the best face on a disaster.
Governor, senator and congressman join to anoint LG hopeful
UPDATE NO. 2, 8/14/13: So they sent out the notice again today, with this at the top: «Please note that due to an overwhelming response, the location in Red Rock Casino Hotel Spa has been changed to The Veranda." I bet it's overwhelming. I think every Carson City lobbyist is on this list. And if they're not, they soon will be (Gov. Arm Twister and possibly returning senator Hutch will see to that).
